Hardy and the FBI try to predict Rick's revenge, which leads to an unexpected outcome. Paul of Emma and Jacob's relationship leads to a breaking point, and the origin of the relationship between Hardy and Carroll is revealed." (The Following, season 1. The Poet's Fire, ep 3.) Ryan Hardy, a young FBI detective, is invited by literature professor Joe Carroll for a glass of whiskey and research on the works of the novelist poet Edgar Allan Poe, on which a serial killer, investigated by Ryan, has been based. Even though the detective has gone to Carroll's house just to learn about Poe's obscure art, Joe's charm won't allow him to keep his mind in focus.
