Maxon Schreave is the symbol of perfection. Handsome, kind and generous, the boy is simply an angel. Literally. But there is something about angels that no one knows. They can be immortal, and fall in love with humans, and maybe, in some cases, have children. This happened to Maxon. He fell in love with a human thousands of years ago. She always comes every seventeen years, and when they finally kiss, she bursts into flames, and dies. Seventeen years later, she reappears, with different qualities and cultures, but always with the same physical appearance. And that always, happens, she always bursts into flames, and he always suffers. But this time, America is different. This time, she doesn't believe in any kind of deity. This time, she sees shadows, which she has not seen in other lifetimes. This time, she kisses Maxon, but doesn't die. Why did this happen? Will they finally get together? Or will she end up dying like every other time?
