After making a peace deal with Tenebrae, Nifheim became impatient with the various wrong attitudes the nation was taking, and decided to end the nation's owners, taking Tenebrae and all its firstfruits for good. With the death of the king and queen of Tenebrae and fearing that their nation will be next, Noctis finds himself with several questions in his head: Why does Lucis have a barrier? How do you create the barrier? What is the purpose of a king? Why is Nifheim so ambitious to seize something that doesn't belong to them? Is Lunafreya okay with everything happening on Tenebrae? What does he fight for? And among other questions. With his trip to Altissia, Noctis hopes to find Lunafreya and clear up all his doubts.
In 2021, three people end up falling into a different world where magic has evolved rather than science. Not only has this been the case, imagination is the source of this world's power, but a human's limitless imagination can unbalance that entire universe. And they must then solve the problem of the worlds that begin to converge at an absurd rate.
