The year 1940 took place, one year after the beginning of the 2nd World War. John Keller was a 22-year-old American, studying medicine at Harvard, when he decided to follow his other vocation, which was to be a fighter pilot, as his father had been, in World War I. He enlists in the air force and manages to become a pilot, requesting a transfer to an American unit, which was helping the British in the Battle of Britain. While on leave, John meets Annie Van Alen, a young Dutch Jewish woman, fleeing German persecution. Both fall in love with each other, but will their love be able to overcome the barriers of war, hate, fear and distance?
