What is the meaning of a god of death? What does he represent by being inserted as a constant figure in so many mythologies? I wouldn't say he's just a reaper of souls, an embodiment of the only certainty in a human being's life. He is also a symbol of hope that there is something beyond death, even if it was just anguish. In Shintoism this role was in charge of Izanami, however she is not just a simple goddess of death, she was also responsible for creating the world with her husband, according to the stories. Isn't it funny a goddess of creation who ended up becoming a goddess of death? Two sides of the same coin. But, after all, aren't we all made up of two sides of ourselves? A nymphomaniac cannot just be a nymphomaniac, a cannibal cannot just be a cannibal. Both are whole in their own duality. However, who would have thought that nothing could be more one than the meeting of the voracity of these two?
