Her family was brought from Africa illegally by the terrible drug lord Pablo Miyazarra, a Spaniard accused of treason against the Spanish Crown allied with the Duke of Mayorca in his illicit dealings. Despite being born in 1873, 2 years after the Free Womb Law (1871), she had her birth certificate falsified so that she could remain a slave; but her destiny begins to change when she meets Fabricio, son of her new master. Unfortunately, as her love grows, Nicolayvna's wickedness and Forest Captain Mario's cunning grow bigger and her happiness becomes more difficult.

Upon receiving a Temporary Ontological Adjustment Request Form 42/B, his existence is recalculated. To correct this cosmic blunder, the DIB sends Artemis Xyllan-7, Senior Auditor and specialist in metaphysical disasters. Armed with an expired stopwatch, a pen that alters probabilities, and the patience of a black hole, she has little time (and even less desire) to fix the problem before the universe decides to file Immanuel away permanently.
