Jewish blood
Sara Polanski was a traditional German girl type, until she found out her father was a Jew the day after his death. Sara's mother, fearing interrogation about her dead husband and the risk of finding out he was a Jew, abandons Sara and flees the country, leaving behind any record that she once had a daughter with a Jewish man. The neighbor, a German lady, welcomes and takes care of Sara, knowing that there is a risk of discovering that the girl has Jewish blood.
