First I would like to thank the wonderful Anne L for helping me beta this story, I am very grateful ♥
Warning: this whole story is a big spoiler. I recommend you watch the movie before, not only because of that, but also because everything will become quite confusing if the situation in which they are already inserted at the beginning of the fanfic has not been watched and explained by the movie itself.
Warning²: This story explores Peter and Tom's relationship if Peter hadn't *SPOILER* died at the end of the movie.
I decided to write this fanfic because I just couldn't swallow the ending of the movie "The Talented Ripley" (1999). I've read the books, I've only seen this movie out of the five. I already knew the ending would be different from the book, but boy, I just thought the ending was illogical for a character as resourceful as Ripley. Killing Peter would put him face to face with a wall, that wouldn't make him avoid the police for not letting Peter and Meredith meet, it would only make him find the police for having killed Peter, because, after all, it would be impossible to get rid of the body on that ship. Firstly, ships usually don't have windows, but hatches, so if he wanted to get rid of Peter's body without leaving the room, he'd have to throw him through the hatch, which Peter certainly didn't go through. If I wanted to throw him through the hatch in parts, the mess would be immense, in addition to getting out of character. There would be no way to put a 1.85 cm man in a suitcase and throw him out to sea, even leaving the room, as he would have to climb a ladder (the rooms are on a floor below the "normal" floor of the ship), the that would be impossible, either carrying him on her lap or in a gigantic bag. After that, even if he managed to carry Peter's body upstairs, which would be a pretty lucky situation if no one had heard anything, someone would certainly be awake. The ship's pilot. The co-pilot. An employee. Someone would see him, especially carrying a big man like Peter and trying to throw him out of the blue. If he chose to leave the corpse there, the police would quickly point him out as the culprit, as someone had seen him enter Peter's room (Meredith included!) and they had bought tickets together and were very close friends, as Marge could attest. easily; it's a simply illogical solution and doesn't seem like something Ripley would do.
But what could he have done then? Well, that's exactly what I'm going to explore in this fanfic. They'll get to Athens and I'll show you how he could have avoided Meredith without killing anyone, because that death didn't make sense.
Note: This fic is also a continuation of the movie if Peter hadn't died.
Thank you so much for reading this far or even taking an interest in this story. Hope you like it.
