How could he have hidden that side of himself for so many years? The truth is, Teresa Lisbon was very romantic—terribly romantic, to be honest. Life made her pretend that this side of her didn't exist, but he was there and he was there whenever her boyfriend was around.
Whatever was in her power to please her, he did. If her clothes were the problem, he would readily choose his best pants, sometimes even buy new shirts, to wear the next time they went out to share a pizza. No matter what the request, he would do them all just to see her smile.
After the abrupt breakup with Grace, working had become a much more difficult task than she'd thought it would be.
They were both at an impasse, they knew it. However, they could no longer ignore what they felt for each other.
When night came, it was Teresa's image that she saw as she closed her eyes in her bed. Her sincere smile and gentle voice made all her suffering seem so small and meaningless.
It was always painful to have to walk away from Teresa Lisbon and watching her walk away hurt more than I could have imagined.
