Victoria Grimes had an ordinary teenage life. She was looking forward to her eighteenth birthday and would soon go to college to study literature, which had always been her big dream. All she cared about was getting good grades, making her brother proud, having fun, and trying to stop being attracted to her brother's best friend. However, things have changed drastically. Her brother was shot and left in a coma. She had to put off her plans to go to college, to support her sister-in-law and her nephew and still have to deal with Shane's closeness that doubled over to support them. As if it couldn't get any worse, a virus spread through Atlanta and it didn't take long to reach Victoria's door. Now, Victoria wasn't just an ordinary girl with ordinary problems and an ordinary life. She was becoming a survivor. She could feel that nothing good could come from the future. She was sure there would still be a lot of pain coming her way and those she loved. Now she was in a group and she saw the people around her perish, either to death or worse. Victoria, with each passing day, put the needs of others before her own, even if in doing so, she sank deeper and deeper. A cruel doubt blossomed in Victoria's head. Coloquei meus fones de ouvido só para ouvir um áudio no WhatsApp ao mesmo tempo em que um idiota sacou a arma e anunciou o assalto na cafeteria, entre todos os lugares, e eu não ouvi a ordem clichê de “todos no chão” e então fui baleada para servir de exemplo. Uma situação de assalto à mão armada que evoluiu para um assalto com reféns com duração de cerca de três horas que culminou posteriormente com troca de tiros com a polícia e os jornalistas anunciavam a morte do assaltante no local e uma refém morta a caminho do hospital. É o que acontece quando você presta mais atenção às fofocas do que à própria vida.
