There is no more hope in Germany. With Adolf Hitler's recent suicide, German families are lost in despair and pain - women do not know where their husbands are, nor do husbands know if their wives were killed, burned or raped by Russians. Written with the pen of melancholy and the ink of hate, revenge is about to happen. Daniel Hemingway, the fruit of a soldier and a housewife, prepares to give his life in exchange for satisfaction, information about the whereabouts of Eric, his father. What he didn't imagine was what was going to happen... Be patient! In the course of history they know what will happen to the boy. But I still hope to rally the sympathies of opinion, and the effective way of doing this is to evade a long, explicit prologue. The best prologue is the one that contains the fewest things, or says them in an obscure and garbled way. Consequently, I avoid telling the extraordinary process I used in composing these memoirs, worked on for years after Daniel's story. It would be curious, but minimally extensive, and moreover unnecessary for the understanding of the work. The work itself is everything: if it pleases you, fine reader, I will pay for the task; if you don't like it, I'll pay you with a flick, and goodbye!
