They Don't Care About Us - Hiatus

Synopsis

Alice Wings and Annelise Ângelo have always been best friends, but they never had an easy life. Always taking risks, always getting into trouble. Always suffering. Alice was the daughter of an alcoholic father and a mother who was too cowardly to separate - or to lose his money. But she keeps secrets that no one but her best friend knows. Annelise had had a good life until she was sixteen, until the year her parents were murdered and her siblings disappeared. But she knew it was nothing by chance, she knew her brothers had disappeared because they probably knew too much. She had learned to keep her mouth shut. Both were put to constant test: A test of psychological survival. It was almost as if they were seeing how long they could live in that hell they were being forced to call life. How long would they last? Well, enough to meet people who would change their lives. People who would care about them. People who would show that life wasn't all suffering. It was what they expected, at least. — Psst. — What? — Let me tell you something: They don't care about us, you know. Neither do we for them.

Well, but for some it can be " norm", or be just a frill. At one point, she returns to the city where she grew up and goes to live with her father. New school, new company, a new life. And then she finds the one who was her only hope when "hope" no longer existed in her vocabulary.

In Santa Amélia, the last trip of line 86 crosses the border between the known world and the existences that, for some reason, were left on its margins. For seventeen years, Marta Amaral has driven this route, coexisting with passengers for whom time, death, and reality itself seem to obey particular rules. The Passengers Who Never Got Off explores memory, grief, motherhood, and the desire to recover what life has taken from us. In a universe where abandoned possibilities continue to exist, the story investigates the limits of belonging, the consequences of our choices, and the difficult coexistence between love and loss. Between the absurd, melancholy, and supernatural horror, the narrative finds in the small everyday intimacies some of the most unsettling questions of human existence.
