The setting of the story is Beacon Heights, Washington, where Mackenzie Evans and four other students attend their final year of high school. As they plan for their future and deal with their own personal and family issues, some of which are far from commendable, these five young men discover something in common: they all hate the same boy, rich and cocky Nolan Hotckinss. And they hatch a perfect assassination plan.
