The girl ran as if her life depended on it. She hoped that her best friend was still waiting for her in the square, even after several minutes of waiting. She hadn't meant any harm, after all, she'd just been distracted by one of the stories her aunt had told her, and that's why she'd missed our time slot. She sighed in relief when she saw the blond hair sitting on one of the benches in the small square that wasn't far from their houses. She slowed her steps and approached him with a huge smile on her lips. She was so excited to share the story she'd heard with her best friend that she didn't notice the sullen expression he possessed. "Owen!" she called out to him, gaining the little boy's full attention. — You're late! – he pointed out, shifting his green eyes to the flower that was in his still small hands. — Sorry, sorry. – the girl muttered, lowering her head. - But, my aunt told a story and I ended up losing time. — What story? Owen asked curiously. The little girl raised her ice blue eyes to the little boy sitting in front of her, who was playing dejectedly with a flower she thought was a tulip. Ignoring that detail, she smiled at her best friend. — It's a Japanese legend that says that every person is linked to their unmei no hito. She uttered the word with extreme difficulty. – by a red thread, the akai ito, tied to his little finger. They say that no matter how much a person tries to distance themselves from the person on the other end of the wire, it's their destiny to be together. And there is no way to undo it, because only then will the person be fully happy. After all, true happiness is only next to that person. The little girl let out a passionate sigh, imagining what it would be like to find her soulmate, like in the fairy tales her mother told her when she was little. — Unmei no hito? What is it? — Soulmate. she replied, looking up at the typically sunny New York spring sky. But, she lowered her orbs to Owen upon hearing him snort. - What's it? — This is just a legend, Izzy. There is no such thing as akai ito or soul mate. He grumbled, rolling his green eyes. Isabelle looked at him indignantly. Those words made her stop smiling at the same moment. She crossed her arms and looked at him seriously. — I just wanted to tell you a beautiful story, Owen. I better go. – The little girl turned to leave, but felt her wrist being held by the little boy. - What? — I didn't mean it, Izzy. But, it's the thing... — Stop by my house later, ok? She interrupted him and shrugged, managing to free herself from Owen's grip. – Mom made your favorite food and invited your parents and you to have dinner over there. The door will be open. And just like that, she ran back to her house, watched by a pair of guilt-ridden green eyes. He hated when he hurt her or when he let her down. She let out a sigh and looked at the flower in her hands, realizing that she had screwed it up.
