Galio is an immense colossus of Demacia, created to protect Demacians from wizards and magic. Poppy is a yordle, a small creature of the spirit world that guards the portals to her world, in particular, one located in the vicinity of Demacia. Galio, however, remains dormant and immobile, as he needs to absorb enemy magic to actually be excited. Over the centuries, in countless wars, few were privileged to see Galio in his most alive state more than once in their lives. Poppy is one of the privileged, due to her magical nature of countless years of life. While Poppy needs to stay out of sight of the other Demacians so that they don't suspect his magical nature, Galio feels that Poppy is a familiar face, one that in the hectic passing of the centuries, always remains the same. One night in Demacia, after the murder of King Jarvan Lightshield III at the hands of the wizard Sylas, Poppy goes to her friend to talk.
