Four millennia ago the goddess of death, Persephone, managed to escape the domains of Hades and he still searches for his wife among mortals. He won't give up until he has her in his hands again. Meanwhile, on the mortal plane, Emily Leblanc alongside her brother Mikael, maintains the household, playing at parties and soirees. Emily is talented with music and art. Being selfish and envious, he does everything he can to annoy his brother Adam. When he meets Emily, he decides that she will be his newest conquest and is fascinated by her talent with the violin. What the three don't realize is that Hades interferes in the lives of the three mortals, especially Emily, who he believes is his lost wife, Persephone. During the course of young Emily's journey, she has strange dreams since the death of her father. In her dreams, she crosses the valley of death and walks among the dead, being chased by a man who looks like a god. What she doesn't expect is to know that she is linked with the god of death and will have to fight for her freedom. The novel dates from the early 20th century, between the mid-1900s and 1910s.
