“A simple, short story that makes you think a lot about life, its flaws and its demands. This story really moved me. It portrays that just an act of love, affection and a simple help can move worlds, save lives, give someone such extreme happiness that not even you can handle it. I started crying. Yes, cry. I'm hard as nails for such disgusting attitudes from human beings nowadays, but when it comes to animals... Oh, defenseless animals, thousands of little creatures that go through all the hardships in the world, they are different, but with the same feelings. And here I am, recommending you, human being, to read this story. It's not a romance between a man and a woman, who go through the ups and downs of life and end up together. It's a different romance. A poor animal and a good-hearted being. They experience a small but difficult obstacle and the end may have been sad, but it will definitely affect you. I instantly remembered my kitten, Mel. Just black. The greenish eyes like plants. A docile little animal, who ran away from people who mistreated her. I was about 11 when I found her under my neighbor's car. He tried everything he could to get her out of there. When he tried to be rude, I stopped him. It was such a shock for him to see that I didn't want him to hurt her. With great care, I crept down the street, entering the underside of the car, removing the kitten from there. So small that it fit in the palm of my hand. And then, she meowed. So faint I could barely hear it. After kicking my neighbor's leg, I ran to my house. After crying so much so I could be with her, here I am, being happy with my pet. I gave her the name "Mel" because that's really what she is. A sweet one. Sweet as honey. I may be allergic to animal fur, but I never tire of hugging her. I don't get tired of feeding her every day. I don't know how many times I rejected going out, just for fear of her being alone. Now, at 4 years old, just huge, she is here. On my shoulder, resting. I'm happy and I don't regret adopting her that day. Because even though she's not my blood daughter or anything, she's my family. A part of me that I don't want to go away anytime soon. And this is the attitude that human beings must take. Treat animals like family, as they may not be our species, but they feel everything we feel and go through life's worst challenges. And this story is worth reading and reflecting on. Thank you for opening the eyes of so many people and especially for moving me with every word.”
